EAST ORANGE, NJ – East Orange Campus High School seniors Akeem Lindo and Kevaray Gillette have been key leaders for the boys’ and girls’ track and field teams.
On April 11, they signed National Letters of Intent to continue their careers on the collegiate level.
Lindo signed with North Carolina A&T, while Gillette signed with Indiana East University.
Both runners are setting their sights on continuing their success this spring following outstanding performances this past indoor winter. At the Essex County Championships, Lindo set the meet record in the boys’ 55-meter dash in 6.38 and also won the 200-meter dash, while Gillette took second in the girls’ 55-meter hurdles.
At the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 State Championships, Lindo won the boys’ 55 dash and 55 hurdles. Gillette won the girls’ 55 hurdles. At the Group 4 State meet, Lindo won the 55 hurdles. Gillette finished third in the same event on the girls’ side.
Gillette, a native of Jamaica who moved to the United States four years ago with her family, said one of the reasons she picked Indiana University East is the family atmosphere fostered by the team.
Gillette plans to major in criminal justice. She cited her mother, Veronica; EOCHS girls’ head coach Rolanda Bruce, and teammate Brittany Francis as her influences.
