EAST ORANGE – East Orange Campus High School track and field star Cory Poole finished in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles finals at the USATF Junior Outdoor Nationals in Clovis, Calif. on Sunday, June 26.
Poole, a rising senior, finished in 51.91. The previous day, Poole won his preliminary heat in 52.13.
In the previous week, Poole took second in the 400-meter hurdles(51.56) at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. on June 19, the final day of meet. Also at the meet, he led the 4×400-meter relay to a third-place showing in 3:12.82, which is a county record, and was part of the winning Swedish Relay team that ran 1:54.88.
Poole capped the New Jersey high school season when he won both the 110-meter hurdles (13.71, new Essex County record) and 400-meter hurdles (52.50) at the state Meet of Champions on June 8 at Central Regional HS in Bayville. Poole also was named the Gatorade New Jersey Boys’ Track Athlete of the Year.
