Orange HS baseball team defeats East Orange Campus for third straight year in annual Unity Cup Game

ORANGE – The Orange High School varsity baseball team defeated East Orange Campus High School, 9-1, in the sixth annual Unity Cup game at Monte Irvin Field at Central Avenue Playground.

The EOCHS Jaguars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on Javon Brown’s RBI single. Orange responded with an RBI single by Shamil Roberts in the fourth inning and six runs in the fifth inning, spearheaded by Chrystian Walker’s RBI single, followed by Welington Jimenez’s two-RBI single. Roberts was the winning pitcher in relief. The Tornadoes improved to a 6-2 record.

The OHS Tornadoes have won five of the six Unity Cup Games.

In earlier action, Roberts tossed five innings and Walker hit a two-run homer as Orange defeated Weequahic 10-0 in Orange on April 13. Roberts (2-for-3 with two-RBI and a run at the plate) allowed two-hits, while striking out 11 and Walker also singled, doubled and scored three-runs.

The Tornadoes then lost to Shabazz, 9-1, April 15, in Newark. Walker was 3-for-4; Joshua Fields was 2-for-4 with one-RBI; and Ezechiel Conserve was 2-for-4.
