GLEN RIDGE, NJ – An impressive freshman class for the Drexel Universiy women’s lacrosse team was recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association on Thursday, May 3, when the league announced its postseason awards. Colleen Grady, a 2017 Glen Ridge High School graduate, was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year, the first Dragon ever to win that award. She and classmate Karson Harris were both Second Team All-CAA and All-Rookie selections. Together, the duo represented the first Drexel rookies to also earn spots on the All-CAA teams since Lauren LaBella also got a Second Team nod in 2006.
Grady, a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week, led the Dragons with 32 goals, 24 assists and 56 total points. Her 56 points are the most for any Dragon since Alyse Maiden recorded 56 in 2013, and her 24 assists are the most for a Drexel player since Kerry Kelly’s program-record 33 in 2007. Both Maiden and Kelly were seniors at the time they put together those numbers. The native of Glen Ridge had a pair of game-winning goals, defeating Iona and Monmouth. She also had 14 draw controls and eight ground balls on the season. Grady was one of six Dragons to start all 16 games in 2018, joining freshman goalie Zoe Bennett as the only freshmen to do so.
Grady was the CAA’s Rookie of the Week on March 19, April 2 and April 23. She scored at least one goal in 15 of the team’s 16 games, and had multiple points to her credit in 14 contests. Those included a pair of seven-point efforts at Villanova and against Monmouth, and five-point games in CAA play against William & Mary and Elon. In the league, Grady sat third – behind Katie Kerrigan of James Madison and Mia DeRuggiero of Delaware – with a 3.50 points per game average.
