North 13th Street Tech answered with a run in the top of the seventh before the Ridgers won it in the bottom of the seventh.
Cancro and Schnack each went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run; Curtis finished 1-for-3 with a RBI and two runs; Buchman finished 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run; Keeler Patton went 1-for-1 with three walks and a run; Owen Hannigan walked twice, drove in a run and scored a run; and Mac Kotrey went 1-for-2.
Simon Ogilvie recorded his first varsity hit.
“Today was truly a team win,” said GRHS first-year head coach Liam Penberthy. “We had some opportunities throughout the game but couldn’t capitalize. Give them credit; they made our pitchers work. Even with the missed opportunities, the kids kept battling. They proved to themselves today they are never out of the game.
“We cannot rely on a big inning late in the game to bail us out. We must continue to improve and limit our mistakes if we want to get to where we want to be.”
