Glen Ridge HS baseball team is No. 2 seed in state sectional tournament

GLEN RIDGE – The Glen Ridge High School varsity baseball team received the No. 2 seed in the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 tournament and will host 15th-seeded Weequahic in the first round on Monday, May 23.

The winner will face the winner between seventh-seeded Weehawken and No. 10 seed Arts in the quarterfinals on May 26.

The top seed is Bloomfield Tech.

The semifinals are May 31 and the final is June 3.

The Ridgers, under first-year head coach Liam Penberthy, had a 9-11 record through May 18.

Carter Crutchfield went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored and Brian Schnack went 3-for-3 to lead the Ridgers to an 8-2 win over Belleville on May 17 in a Super Essex Conference non-division game at Belleville. Keeler Patton had a solo home run and Matt Buchmann had two hits and one RBI as the Ridgers snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Ridgers lost at Verona, 6-0, May 18, in a division game.
