GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Senior guard Tyler Liddy scored 20 points to lead the 18th-seeded Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 42-37 home win over No. 27 seed Science Park in the preliminary second round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Junior Liam Gunnarsson had 16 points and senior George Kinzler had 11 points for the Ridgers, who improved to a 15-5 overall record. Junior Simon Low, senior Christian Samuels and senior David Weissenberger each had four points; freshman Sam Trunley had two points and senior Kyle Kleinberg hit a free throw for Glen Ridge, which will visit No. 15 seed Irvington in the preliminary third round on Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. The winner will visit No. 2 seed Newark East Side in the round of 16 on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Liddy was 25 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points. GRHS also was scheduled to visit Cedar Grove on Feb. 6 at 4 p.m.

In previous action, the Ridgers lost to Montclair Kimberley Academy, 65-60, for their first loss in the Super Essex Conference-Independence Division. Gunnarsson scored 31 points with six three-pointers and Kinzler had 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior Kevin Mathew had six points and Samuels had five points, five rebounds, three blocks and four steals. Weissenberger had three points and 14 rebound; and Low had three points.

Liddy had 20 points and Gunnarsson had 16 in the 62-38 home win over Nutley on Feb. 1 in a division game. Kinzler had 11 points; and Low, Samuels and Weissenberger each had four points.
