Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team delivers in clutch to continue winning ways

GLEN RIDGE – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team has shown a knack for delivering in clutch moments.

The Ridgers won all three games last week in thrilling fashion to extend their winning streak to four and improve to a 5-2 record.

David Weissberger hit the game-winning free throws in overtime to lift the Ridgers to a 54-52 win at Technology on Jan. 5 in Newark. Ryan Liddy scored 13 points and Max Thompson had 12 for the Ridgers, who outscored Technology, 10-8, in overtime.

Tyler Liddy fed Charlie DeLuca for a layup with 1:30 remaining to lift the Ridgers to a 39-36 win over Golda Och on Jan. 7. DeLuca and Liddy each finished with eight points and George Kinzler had seven points for the Ridgers, who used a 12-9 fourth quarter to win it. Thompson finished with six points; Weissberger had four and Liam Gunnarsson had three.

The Ridgers then capped the memorable week when Thompson hit a dramatic three-pointer at the buzzer for a 52-50 home win over Nutley on Saturday, Jan. 9. Nutley had taken 50-49 lead after Matt Schettino, who finished with 25 points, hit two free throws. Kinzler had a team-high 14 points; Tyler Liddy had 12 points; Thompson finished with 10; Ryan Liddy had eight; DeLuca had six and Weissberger had two.
