Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team splits two games in its annual tournament

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team  is hoping to make more progress.

The Ridgers hosted their annual Holiday Tournament, beating Passaic Charter before losing to Bloomfield in the final to move to a 2-4 overall record on the season.

Sophomore guard Sam Trunley had 11 points in the 53-37 win over Passaic Charter on Dec. 27. Junior guard Joe DeLuca, senior forward/captain Simon Low and fellow senior forward/captain Kevin Mathew each had eight points; freshman guard Carter Koenig had seven points; freshman guard Bryan Moussako had five points; sophomore forward Matt Van Bloem had four and junior guard Aiden Connaghan added two.

Trunley scored 14 points and Mathew had 10 in the 66-37 loss to Bloomfield. DeLuca had four points; and Low and Connaghan each had three.

In earlier action, Trunley had 10 points and Low had nine points in the 66-39 loss at Irvington on Dec. 18 in a SEC game. Freshman Michael Cifelli and Koenig each had six points.

Mathew had 11 points in the 56-43 home loss to Newark Tech on Dec. 20 in a SEC game. Koenig had seven points; DeLuca and Moussako each had six points and Trunley had five points.
