Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team has heartbreaking loss to Shabazz to end six-game winning streak

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped with a heartbreaking 44-43 loss to Shabazz on Saturday, Jan. 20, in a Super Essex Conference non-division game in Newark.

Senior Tyler Liddy scored 20 points and junior Liam Gunnarsson had 14 points for the Ridgers, who moved to an 11-3 record. Senior Christian Samuels had four points; junior Simon Low had three points and senior George Kinzler added two points.

In earlier action, Liddy and Gunnarsson each had 19 points to lead the Ridgers to a 69-54 home win over Weequahic on Jan. 16 in a Super Essex Conference-Independence game.

Low had nine points; senior David Weissenberger had eight points; Kinzler added six points; and sophomore Jack Cotrone and junior Kevin Mathew each chipped in two points.

Liddy scored 14 points; Gunnarsson had 12 points and Low netted 10 points in the 49-43 division win over North 13th St. Tech on Jan. 18 at GRHS. Weissenberger had six points; freshman Sam Trunley posted four points; and Kinzler added three points.

Glen Ridge improved to 8-0 in the division.
