Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team notches three straight wins to move to 12-4

GLEN RIDGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Jan. 31, 1:32 p.m.) – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team won three straight games, beating Montclair Kimberley Academy, Newark Arts and Kinnelon, to improve to an 12-4 overall record and 8-2 in the Super Essex Conference-Freedom Division.

Junior Tyler Liddy scored 14 points and sophomore Liam Gunnarsson had 12 points in the 45-42 home win over Montclair Kimberley Academy on Jan. 24 in a non-division game. Senior Charlie DeLuca had eight points and junior David Weissenberger had four points for GRHS.

Liddy had a  game-high 17 points with six assists, three rebounds and three steals in the 43-37 win over Newark Arts on Jan. 26 in Newark in a division game. DeLuca had seven points and five rebounds and Weissenberger had six points. Gunnarsson had five points; senior Ryan Liddy had four points and juniors Avery Hackett and George Kinzler each had two points for the Ridgers.

Gunnarsson had 16 points, including four three-pointers; senior Max Thompson had 14 points and Tyler Liddy had 12 points in the 62-47 win at Kinnelon on Monday, Jan. 30. DeLuca had 10 points; Weissenberger contributed eight points and Kinzler added two points.

The 21st-seeded Ridgers will host No. 24 seed Newark Central in the preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1:30 p.m.
