Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team returns to winning ways

GLEN RIDGE – Sophomore guard Tyler Liddy hit a half-court, three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a thrilling 41-38 home victory over Newark Technology on Jan. 21.

GRHS rallied from a 21-18 deficit by outscoring Technology, 13-7, in the fourth quarter, capped by Liddy’s heroics. Liddy finished with five points.

Junior forward Charlie DeLuca had 11 points; sophomore guard Avery Hackett had nine and sophomore forward George Kinzler had seven.

In earlier action,  DeLuca scored 13 points and Liddy and sophomore forward David Weissenberger each had 10 to lead the Ridgers to a 50-44 win at Caldwell on Jan. 19.

Kinzler had nine points for the Ridgers, who outscored Caldwell, 19-14, in the fourth quarter.

With the back-to-back victories, the Ridgers stopped a three-game losing streak and improved to a 7-5 record.
