Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team stays unbeaten in division

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Livingston and Newark Arts before losing to Verona to move to a 13-4 overall record, 10-0 in the Super Essex Conference-Independence Division.

Senior George Kinzler scored 16 points and junior Liam Gunnarsson had 14 points to lead the Ridgers to a 52-46 home win over Livingston on Jan. 23 in division play. Senior Tyler Liddy had 13 points; senior David Weissenberger had four points; and junior Kevin Mathew and senior Christian Samuels each had two points.

The Ridgers defeated Newark Arts, 55-37, Jan. 25 at home in division action. Kinzler scored 15 points; Gunnarsson netted 12 points; Weissenberger had 10 points; Liddy scored eight points; freshman Sam Trunley had six points; and Matthew and Samuels each added two points. GRHS is in first place in the division.

Gunnarsson had 18 points, and Kinzler and Low each had four points in the 49-33 home loss to Verona on Saturday, Jan. 27 in a SEC non-division game. Liddy and Trunley each had three points. Kinzler had eight rebounds and added a free throw.

Liddy was 51 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.

The Essex County Tournament seeding meeting was scheduled for Jan. 29.
