Glen Ridge HS boys’ basketball team tops Belvidere to advance to state tournament quarterfinals

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Liam Gunnarsson, a junior, scored a game-high 23 points and senior tri-captain Tyler Liddy had 17 points to lead the second-seeded Glen Ridge High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 68-50 home win over No. 15 seed Belvidere in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state tournament on Monday night, Feb. 26.

Christian Samuels, a senior, scored 10 points; senior tri-captain George Kinzler had nine points; junior Simon Low had five; and sophomore Joe DeLuca and senior Kyle Kleinberg each added two for the Ridgers, who improved to a 19-7 record.

The Ridgers were scheduled to host No. 7 seed Secaucus in the quarterfinals on Feb. 28. The winner will face the winner of No. 3 seed Shabazz and No. 6 seed University in the semifinals on March 2. The final is March 6.

In earlier action, the Ridgers defeated Oratory Prep, 56-33, Feb. 22, at home. Gunnarsson had 21 points and six rebounds; Low scored 11 points; Liddy had eight points, nine rebounds and five assists; Kinzler had five points and DeLuca netted four points.
