GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge High School boys basketball team, under first-year head coach Mike Salvatelli, received the No. 2 seed in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 state tournament.
The Ridgers will host No. 15 seed Marion P. Thomas Charter in the first round on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 5 p.m. The winner will face either No. 7 seed Weequahic High School or No. 10 seed Whippany Park High School in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Hoboken High School is the No. 1 seed.
Glen Ridge fell to Orange High School, 60-32, Monday, Feb. 12, at Orange. Freshman Ryan Law had 6 points and eight rebounds, sophomore Liam Feder had 6 points and six rebounds and sophomore Liam Cooney had 5 points for Glen Ridge.
The Ridgers lost to Barringer High School, 80-74, Wednesday, Feb. 14, at home to move to a 15-12 record on the season. Feder had 21 points, sophomores Jacob Javier and Zach Kontzni each had 11, Law had 10, senior Zach Berner and junior Jake Machemer each had 8, Cooney had 3 and sophomore JP Labadia added 2.
The Ridgers won the North 2, Group 1 state sectional title two seasons ago. Salvatelli, a GRHS alumnus, was an assistant coach for the past several years for the Ridgers before being promoted to head coach.
