Glen Ridge HS boys soccer team outlasts Verona in penalty-kick shootout; vies for third straight sectional title

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge High School boys soccer team will vie for its third straight sectional championship.

The eighth-seeded Ridgers eliminated No. 4 seed Verona in the semifinals of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1, tournament on Nov. 8 in Verona.

After the score was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and two overtimes, GRHS won the penalty-kick shootout 9-8. Robertson and Nathan Latifi each had a goal in regulation, with assists from Carter Koenig and Cooper Sharp, while Shoh Nishino made three saves in regulation.

GRHS improved to 6-11-1 and will visit No. 2 seed Cedar Grove in the final on Thursday, Nov. 11.
