Glen Ridge HS boys’ soccer team to visit Becton in state tournament

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School varsity boys’ soccer team, seeded 13th, was scheduled to visit No. 4 seed Becton in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state tournament on Oct. 31 in East Rutherford. The winner will face either No. 5 seed Dayton or No. 12 seed Palisades Park in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 3. The Ridgers last season lost to Dayton in the final, 2-1, in overtime.

GRHS defeated Pope John and Newark Central to improve to 7-9-1.

Matt Whitney had two goals; Emmett Martin and Arran Robertson each had one goal and one assist; Brian Schnack and Cole Schubert each had a goal; and Kyle Rochester and Travis Burnett each had an assist in the 6-3 home win over Pope John on Oct. 23.

Jordan Caloo and Whitney each had a goal and both assisted on each of their goals in the 2-0 win at Newark Central on Oct. 26. Logan Kotronis made seven saves for the shutout.
