Glen Ridge HS field hockey team defeats North Warren in state section tournament first round

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Julia Hagarty had a goal and an assist and Maggie Smith, Grace Twitchell and Lyla Wotring each had a goal to lead the fifth-seeded Glen Ridge High School varsity field hockey team to a 4-0 win over No. 12 seed North Warren in the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 1 tournament on Oct. 24 at George Washington field.

Sydney Collins had three assists and Maggie Krupinsky had one assist for the Ridgers, who moved to a 9-9-1 record and were scheduled to visit Pompton Lakes in the quarterfinals on Oct. 26. The winner will face either top-seeded Newton or No. 9 seed Whippany Park in the semifinals on Nov. 1. The final is Nov. 3.

In previous action, the Ridgers defeated Parsippany, 2-1, Oct. 19, in Parsippany. Gretchen Gilmore and Krupinsky each had a goal; Twitchell added an assist and Caroline Keavey made five saves.

Sarah Looney and Smith each had a goal in the 4-2 loss to Millburn on Oct. 21 in Millburn. Sophie Thervil and Twitchell each had an assist.

GRHS fell at Montclair Kimberley Academy, 2-0, Saturday, Oct. 22.
