GLEN RIDGE, NJ (updated Saturday Nov. 12, 11:03 a.m.) – The sixth-seeded Glen Ridge High School varsity football team lost to third-seeded Shabazz, 34-10, in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 playoffs on Friday, Nov. 11, at Shabazz Stadium in Newark in a matchup of North Jersey Super Football Conference-National Red Division teams.
The Ridgers finished the season with a 3-7 record. Shabazz moved to 7-2.
GRHS quarterback Tyler Liddy completed 12 of 22 passes for 64 yards and rushed for 27 yards on 25 carries.
Matt Myles kicked a 33-yard field goal to give the Ridgers a 3-0 lead with 3:09 left in the first quarter.
Shabazz scored a touchdown to go up 7-3 with 11:01 left in the second quarter.
Avery Hackett returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to give the Ridgers a 10-7 lead. Myles kicked the extra point.
Shabazz answered with a touchdown with 8:08 left in the half to lead 14-10 at the half.
Shabazz maintained control in the second half.
Defensively, Owen Fincher had 12 tackles and a sack; Max Auborn had eight tackles and one caused fumble; Quinlan Hood had eight tackles; Jackson Crutchfield had five tackles; Simon Low posted six tackles; and Jonny Bronander notched three tackles and a sack for the Ridgers.
GRHS was looking to avenge a 20-8 home loss to Shabazz on Oct. 22 in divisional play in the seventh game of the season.
