Glen Ridge HS football team routs MKA to move to 3-0

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School varsity football team posted another dominating effort to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Senior quarterback/co-captain Tyler Liddy threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more scores to propel the Ridgers to an emphatic 55-19 win over Montclair Kimberley Academy on Saturday, Sept. 23, at MKA.

Liddy rushed for a team-high 132 yards on nine carries and passed for 101 yards on eight of 16 attempts.without an interception.

Senior running back/co-captain Joe Marchesano rushed for 125 yards and two TDs on 14 carries and caught one of Liddy’s scoring passes. Marchesano also booted four extra points.

Senior split end Avery Hackett ran for two TDs and finished with 48 rushing yards on four carries. Hackett also finished with five receptions for 63 yards.

After the first quarter, the Ridgers led 7-0 on Marchesano’s 21-yard TD run and his extra-point kick.

The Ridgers then scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to outscore MKA, 26-7, for a 33-7 halftime lead. Marchesano had a 7-yard TD run and caught a 26-yard TD pass from Liddy. Liddy ran for a 3-yard TD. Avery Hackett scored on a 16-yard run.

In the third quarter, Hackett scored on an 11-yard run, followed by Liddy’s two-point conversion pass to junior split end Tyler Strong.

Liddy also threw a 6-yard TD pass to senior tight end David Weissberger in the third quarter.

Liddy ran for a 55-yard TD in the fourth quarter

Defensively for the Ridgers, senior outside linebacker/co-captain Max Auborn had 12 tackles; senior defensive back Jose McCallen-Villafene had 11 tackles; junior DB Kyle Kobylinski had 10 tackles and one fumble recovery; sophomore DB Jackson Crutchfield posted nine tackles; sophomore DB Brendan Easter notched eight tackles and Hackett had two tackles and an interception as a DB.

MKA fell to 1-2.

The Ridgers have been dominant since the start of the season. They defeated Butler, 48-7, in the opener at home and defeated Newark Collegiate Academy, 49-22, in Week 2, on the road.

The Ridgers will host Cedar Grove (1-2) on Friday Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at Hurrell Field in a North Jersey Super Football Conference-National Red Division game.
