Glen Ridge HS girls’ basketball team enjoys good start to season

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team has enjoyed a good start to the season.

The Ridgers hosted their annual Holiday Tournament, beating People’s Prep and losing to Bloomfield to move to a 4-3 record on the season.

Senior Claire McMahon scored 27 points in the 69-20 win over People’s Prep on Dec. 27. Senior Jenny Lisovicz and sophomore Jillian Goffe each had nine points; junior Haleigh Pine had seven points; junior Michaila Dowd had six and freshman Elettra Giantomenico, senior Zipporah Hommel and freshman Holly Vincent each had four.

GRHS fell to Bloomfield, 34-31, Dec. 29.

In earlier action, McMahon had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Glen Ridge to a 53-14 win over Shabazz on Dec. 18 in a SEC game. Lisovicz had 15 points and five steals; junior Sarah Cullinan had four points and eight rebounds and sophomore Olivia Carbonell had three points. Dowd, Hommel, junior Kaylie Koenig, and junior Macy Weber-Zazzu and each had two points.

McMahon scored 14 points and Lisovicz had nine points in the 45-35 loss to West Essex on Dec. 20 in a SEC game. Dowd had six points and Cullinan had four points.

The Ridgers defeated Benedictine, 50-30, Dec. 21 at home in a non-conference game. McMahon had 16 points and 10 rebounds; Lisovicz had 13 points, three assists and three rebounds, Cullinan had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists; and Pine had five points and three rebounds.
