GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team enjoyed a great season.
The Ridgers defeated Ridgefield before losing to Hoboken in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state tournament.
GRHS, under head coach Sean Fitzpatrick, finished the season with an impressive 18-9 record.
The fifth-seeded Ridgers pulled out a gritty 61-59 overtime win over 12th-seeded Ridgefield in the first round on Feb. 28 at GRHS.
The game was tied 52-52 at the end of regulation. GRHS outscored Ridgefield, 9-7, in overtime.
Senior Leslie Jaiyesimi had 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals; senior Juliann Lisovicz had 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals; sophomore Claire McMahon had 11 points and seven rebounds; senior Galen Lew had seven points and 10 rebounds; senior Meghan Marhan had nine points and six rebounds and senior Gabby Kinzler had seven points for the Ridgers.
GRHS dropped a heartbreaking 37-36 decision at fourth-seeded Hoboken in the quarterfinals on March 2. Leslie Jaiyesimi had nine points; Lew, Marhan and McMahon each had seven points and Kinzler had six points.
The Ridgers went 11-3 and finished tied for second in the Super Essex Conference-Independence Division with Verona. West Essex won the division.
