Glen Ridge HS girls’ basketball team falls in state tourney opener

GLEN RIDGE – The 11th-seeded Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity basketball team lost at sixth-seeded Dayton, 47-32, in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 tournament on Feb. 29 in Springfield. Juniors Leslie Jaiyesimi, Gabby Kinzler and Meghan Marhan each had six points; and junior Juliann Lisovicz and freshman Claire McMahon each had five for GRHS, which ended the season with an 11-13 record.

Kinzler scored 11 points and  McMahon had eight points in a 41-29 win at Roselle Park on Feb. 23. Marhan had seven points and junior Julia Lawson had four for the Ridgers, who outscored Roselle Park, 12-2, in the second quarter for a 17-9 halftime lead. GRHS maintained control in the third quarter, outscoring Roselle Park, 18-9, to make it 35-18.

Lisovicz had 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in the 50-38 home win over Caldwell on Feb. 25. Jaiyesimi had 14 points and six rebounds; Lawson had seven points and six rebounds; and McMahon and Kinzler each scored six points.
