Glen Ridge HS girls’ lacrosse team advances to ECT championship

GLEN RIDGE – Junior Julian Lisovicz scored three goals and added one assist; freshman Claire McMahon also had a hat trick and junior and Stanford-University bound Galen Lew had two goals, including the 100th of her career, and added two assists to lead the second-seeded Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team to a 10-8 win over third-seeded Montclair in the Essex County Tournament semifinals on Saturday, April 30, at Watsessing Park field.

The Ridgers will meet fourth-seeded Verona in the ECT championship game at Nutley High School’s Park Oval on Saturday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. Verona upset top-seeded West Essex, 10-9, in the other semifinal.

GRHS overcame a 6-2 halftime deficit to beat Verona, 11-7, May 2, at Watsessing Park for its sixth straight win to move to a 9-3 record. Junior Colleen Grady had four goals to lead the Ridgers.  Juliann Lisovicz had three goals; Lew had two goals; McMahon had one goal and freshman Jennifer Lisovicz had one assist.  Senior Nicole Eckert made 12 saves.

In the ECT semifinals, Grady had one goal and one assist and freshman Jennifer Lisovicz had one goal for the Ridgers in the semifinals. Eckert made 17 saves for the Ridgers, who led 6-5 at halftime. Montclair fell to 7-5. The Ridgers avenged last year’s loss to Montclair in the ECT semifinals. It marks the Ridgers’ first ECT final since 2014 when they lost to West Essex in its bid for a three-peat title.

In previous action, Juliann Lisovicz scored five goals and Lew had four goals and two assists to lead the Ridgers to a 15-2 win over seventh-seeded Montclair Kimberley Academy in the quarterfinals on April 26 at Watsessing Park field.

Grady had three goals and two assists; junior Maggie Smith had one goal and three assists; junior Merritt Davie had one goal and one assist and freshman Charlotte Smith had one goal.

Eckert made eight saves.
