Glen Ridge HS girls’ lacrosse team advances to North Jersey Group 1 tournament semifinals

GLEN RIDGE – The fourth-seeded Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team defeated fifth-seeded Morris Catholic, 17-11, in the quarterfinals of the state North Jersey Group 1 tournament on May 24 at Watsessing Park field.

Galen Lew had eight goals and one assist; Maggie Smith had three goals and four assists and Colleen Grady had three goals and three assists for the Ridgers, who improved to a 14-6 record.

Juliann Lisovicz had two goals and three assists and Merritt Davie added one goal for GRHS. Nicole Eckert made 11 saves in the win.

The Ridgers will visit top-seeded Mountain Lakes in the semifinals on May 26. The Ridgers lost to Mountain Lakes, 16-6, May 14, which was the last time they lost a game. GRHS has won three straight. They beat Oak Knoll, 14-12, May 17. In the first round, they defeated 13th-seeded Morristown-Beard, 17-6, before beating Morris Catholic in the quarterfinals.

In the other semifinal, second-seeded Oak Knoll will host third-seeded Saddle River Day.

The final is June 1.
