Glen Ridge HS girls’ lacrosse team advances to North Jersey Group 1 tourney quarterfinals

GLEN RIDGE – The fourth-seeded Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team defeated 13th-seeded Morristown-Beard, 17-6, in the first round of the state North Jersey Group 1 tournament on May 19 at Watsessing Park field.

Galen Lew had six goals and three assists; Maggie Smith had four goals; Juliann Lisovicz had three goals and Colleen Grady had two goals and four assists for the Ridgers, who improved to a 13-6 record. Nicole Eckert made four saves.

The Ridgers will host fifth-seeded Morris Catholic in the quarterfinals on May 24 at 4:30 p.m. at Watsessing Park field. The winner will face the winner between No. 1 seed Mountain Lakes and No. 8 seed Verona in the semifinals on May 26. The final is June 1.

Lew had four goals and two assists and Lisovicz also had four goals in the 14-12 home win over Oak Knoll on May 17. Grady had three goals and two assists and Smith also had three goals. Nicole Eckert made 10 saves. Oak Knoll is the No. 2 seed in the state North Jersey Group 1 tournament and will face seventh-seeded Glen Rock in the quarterfinals on May 24.

The Ridgers won the Essex County Tournament title on May 7, beating Verona, 14-6, in the final. GRHS lost at Mountain Lakes, 16-6, May 14.
