Glen Ridge HS girls’ lacrosse team is No. 1 seed in ECT; vies for third straight title

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The two-time defending champion Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team, under 10th-year head head coach Beth Larkin, received the No. 1 seed in the Essex County Tournament.

Glen Ridge will host No. 8 seed Livingston in the quarterfinals on April 24. Livingston defeated No. 9 seed Caldwell, 10-9, in the first round.

The winner between GRHS and Livingston will face the winner between No. 5 Verona and No. 4 Montclair Kimberley in the semifinals on April 28. Montclair is the No. 2 seed. West Essex is the No. 3 seed.

The final will be held May 5 at Verona at 2:30 p.m.

The Ridgers have appeared in the ECT final in seven of the past eight seasons (2010-2017). In that span, they won the five ECT titles.

2010: Won, vs. West Essex, 11-10

2011: Lost, vs. West Essex, 9-8

2012: Won, vs. West Essex, 17-7

2013: Won, vs. West Essex, 8-6

2014: Lost, vs. West Essex, 10-9

2016: Won, vs. Verona, 14-6

2017: Won, vs. Montclair, 18-11

The Ridgers defeated Caldwell, 15-3, Monday, April 16, at Watsessing Park to improve to a 3-3 record. Gretchen Gilmore had four goals and three assists; and Sarah Looney and Claire McMahon each had three goals to lead the Ridgers. In earlier action,  Gilmore had four goals and one assist; Looney and Campbell Moriarty each had two goals and one assist; and Madison Grady scored two goals in the 15-10 loss at Oak Knoll on April 10. Gilmore scored all three goals in the 13-3 loss at Immaculate Heart Academy on April 14.
