Glen Ridge HS girls’ lacrosse team is runner-up in state section tournament

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team enjoyed another great season.

The Ridgers, seeded second, fell to top-seeded Oak Knolls, 13-10, in the championship game of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state tournament on Friday, May 24, at Oak Knoll’s athletic facility in Green Village.

The score was tied 8-8 at the half, but Oak Knoll outscored GRHS, 5-2, in the second half.

It marked the second straight season that the Ridgers lost to Oak Knoll in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 state final.

Gretchen Gilmore, a sophomore, scored a game-high seven goals for GRHS. Jenny Lisovicz, a junior, had two goals and one assist and junior Claire McMahon had a goal. Junior goalie Lily Kinley made nine saves.

The Ridgers, under head coach Beth Larkin, moved to a  13-7 record.

McMahon had five goals and three assists and sophomore Campbell Moriarty had three goals in the 13-10 win over sixth-seeded Morristown-Beard in the semifinals on May 22 at Watsessing Park. Gilmore had two goals and three assists and sophomore Madison Grady had two goals and one assist. Lisovicz posted one goal and one assist and Kinley made five saves.

The Ridgers, who won the Essex County Tournament championship for the third year in a row, will visit West Essex in the season finale on May 30 at 4:30 p.m.
