GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The second-seeded and four-time defending champion Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity soccer team defeated Ridgefield and Brearley to advance to the semifinals of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 tournament.
Leslie Jaiyesimi scored two goals and Katie Liu had one goal and one assist in the 7-0 win over 15th-seeded Ridgefield in the first round on Nov. 1 at Watsessing Park. Evie Faucett, Madison Grady, Taylor Kulik and Taylor Townsend each had one goal; Tara Feenaghty, Liz Hauschild, Colleen Grady, Olivia Schwern and Jessica Muney each had an assist and Gabby Sanchez and Victoria Woznick each had two saves for the Ridgers.
Leslie Jaiyesimi and her sister, Lindsay Jaiyesimi, each had a goal in the 3-1 win over seventh-seeded Brearley in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 4, at Watsessing Park. Jenny Lisovicz had a goal; Grady, Muney and Schwern each had one assist; and Woznick made four saves for the Ridgers, who improved to a 13-6-1 record.
The Ridgers will host 14th-seeded New Providence in the semifinals on Nov. 8. The winner will face the winner between top-seeded Whippany Park and fourth-seedd Belvidere in the final on Nov. 11.
The Ridgers are looking to advance to the North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 championship game for the seventh straight season.
