Glen Ridge HS girls’ soccer team is No. 4 seed in ECT

GLEN RIDGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 17, 11:26 a.m.) – The Glen Ridge High School varsity girls’ soccer team received the No. 4 seed in the Essex County Tournament.

The Ridgers will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 12:45 p.m. against either No. 5 seed Montclair Kimberley Academy, No. 12 seed Newark Academy or No. 13 seed Caldwell.

MKA defeated No. 20 Orange, 5-0, in the second preliminary round.  Newark Academy hosted Caldwell in the second preliminary round, with the winner visiting MKA in the first round on or by Oct. 19. The winner of that first-round game will visit Glen Ridge.

West Orange is the top seed. Montclair is the No. 2 seed and Livingston is the No. 3 seed. The ECT has 21 teams.

The semifinals will be Oct. 25 at Millburn HS and the championship game is Oct. 28 at Caldwell HS at 7:30 p.m.

The Ridgers played West Orange to a 1-1 tie in West Orange on Sept. 18. West Orange entered the week with an 11-0-3 record.

Entering the week, the Ridgers had just two losses on the season, falling to Montclair, 2-1, Sept. 26, at Watsessing Park and MKA, 2-1, Oct. 6 at Carteret Park.

Lindsey Jaiyesimi, a senior, had two goals, both assisted by freshman Sydney Mansfield, in the 2-1 home win over Caldwell on Oct. 10. Senior goalkeeper Victoria Woznick made seven saves for the Ridgers.

Jaiyesimi and junior Jenny Lisovicz each had a goal in the 2-0 home win over Columbia on Oct. 12.

Evie Faucett, a sophomore, and Mansfield each had an assist and Woznick made 13 saves.

The Ridgers improved to 10-2-1.
