GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Junior Liz Hauschild scored two goals to lead the eighth-seeded Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity soccer team to a 9-0 win over 17th-seeded Science Park in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Monday, Oct. 17, at Carteret Park.
Seniors Merritt Davie, Colleen Grady, and Leslie Jaiyesimi and sophomore Jenny Lisovicz each had a goal and an assist; and freshman Tara Feenaghty, senior Katie Liu, and Taylor Townsend each had a goal. Senior Meghan Marhan and sophomore Jessica Muney each had an assist. Victoria Woznick made three saves and fellow junior Gabby Sanchez recorded one save to combine for the shutout. Both teams received a bye in the first preliminary round.
The Ridgers, who won their third straight to improve to an 8-5-1 record, will host ninth-seeded Millburn in the first round on Oct. 19. The winner will visit top-seeded Livingston in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 22. GRHS defeated Millburn, 3-2, Sept. 12 in the second game of the season for its first win.
In earlier action, senior Galen Lew scored two goals to lead the Ridgers to a 4-1 win at Verona on Oct. 13. Hauschild had a goal and an assist Jaiyesimi had a goal; Grady collected two assists and Davie added one assist. Woznick had six saves and Sanchez made one save.
