Glen Ridge HS girls’ soccer team seeks ECT success

GLEN RIDGE, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 11, 1:25 p.m.) – The Glen Ridge High School girls’ varsity soccer team hopes to make a good run in the Essex County Tournament.

The eighth-seeded Ridgers will host No. 17 seed Science Park on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at Watsessing Park. The winner will face the winner between No. 16 Belleville and No. 9 Millburn on or by Oct. 19.

The top seed is Livingston. Nutley is seeded second.

The quarterfinals are Saturday, Oct. 22, at the higher-seeded sites.

The semifinals doubleheader will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Belleville HS at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The championship game is Sunday, Oct. 30, at Montclair State University at noon. It is a doubleheader with the ECT boys’ championship game to follow at 2 p.m.

Leslie Jaiyesimi scored with less than a minute remaining in regulation to help GRHS to a 1-1 tie with Montclair Kimberley Academy on Oct. 6 in Montclair. Meghan Marhan recorded the assist. MKA broke the scoreless tie with three minutes left in regulation. GRHS goalie Victoria Woznick made seven saves.
GRHS defeated Columbia, 1-0, Monday, Oct. 10, at Watsessing Park on a goal from Colleen Grady to improve to a 6-5-1 record. Woznick made four saves.

In earlier play, Merritt Davie and Jessica Muney each scored, but the Ridgers lost to Caldwell, 3-2, Oct. 4, at Watsessing Park. Jaiyesimi had an assist and Woznick made eight saves.
