GLEN RIDGE – The Glen Ridge High School softball team would have hoped for a better season than what its 2-17 record indicated.

However, despite the struggles for the young squad that featured just six seniors, head coach Rachael Hogan said two players in seniors Sydney Carey and Alexandra Mondsini certainly enjoyed solid seasons for the Ridgers.

Carey and Mondsini have earned Worrall Media All-Area First Team honors.

On the year, Carey, a shortstop, finished with a batting average of .263. She had 15 hits, two doubles, one home run and 11 RBI. In addition, she also finished with a fielding average of .892 and had 39 putouts along with 35 assists.

“Sydney has been an integral part of the softball program since her sophomore year. She has the ability to field a ball hit in the hole and turn a double play with great finesse,” said the coach, noting Carey will be continuing her softball career at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. next year.

As for Mondsini, Hogan said the returning varsity player finished with a batting average of .464 and finished with 26 hits, one double, three triples, two home runs and nine RBI.

In addition, she finished with an fielding average of .930 and had 40 putouts.

“Alex has shown great improvement this season,” Hogan said. “She lead the team with hits for the season and batting average. She made some amazing catches in center field this season.”
