Glen Ridge HS swim teams give good efforts this season

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School boys and girls swim teams, under head coach Amie Russomano, enjoyed good efforts this season.

The boys team record was 1-9 with a win over Verona High School. The boys are strong swimmers, despite having little depth. Junior Liam Hood qualified for the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions in the 200 IM. He will advance to the time trials on March 2 at Gloucester County Institute of Technology. If he advances, he will compete in the finals on March 3.

The girls team record was 3-7 in the regular season with wins over Verona, West Essex, and Montclair Kimberley Academy. They also qualified for the NJSIAA North 2, Group C State tournament where they defeated Voorhees in the first round and defeated Madison in the second round (quarterfinals),  but ultimately lost to No. 1 seeded Caldwell in the third round (semifinals).

“Making it to the third round of states was a school record for swimming, and a major accomplishment for such a new team – the team is only about five years old,” Russomano said. “The girls team is very strong. We have a lot of impressive swimmers, most notably, Emma Velardi, Devin Rank, Marlane Hlawaty, Skyler Segal, Schuyler Ross, and Mia Manzo. I am looking forward to seeing how far this team can go!”
