Glen Ridge HS track and field athletes shine at North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 Championships

GLEN RIDGE – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams posted solid showings at the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 Championships at Madison HS, May 27-28.

The boys’ team finished sixth with 30 points in the boys’ team standings among the 16 scoring teams based on the top six finishes in each event. The girls’ team finished ninth with 25 points in the girls’ team standings among the 13 scoring teams.

On the boys’ side, senior Owen Tuck finished third in the 200-meter dash in 22.64. Senior Connor Lewis took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 52.20. Senior Justin Dignan was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.12. In the 1,600-meter run, Dignan (4:37.16) and his twin brother Cameron Dignan (4:45.11) took fifth and sixth, respectively.

Sophomore Jack Looney was fifth in the 3,200 (10:47.27).

The 4×400-meter relay took second (3:32.44) and the 4×800 took fourth (8:56.41). Senior Marco Oliveri was fifth in the discus at 115 feet-6 inches.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Liz Hauschild was fifth in the 800 (2:28.98) and sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.91). Sophomore Elizabeth O’Connell was third in the 3,200 (12:26.70) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:28.99). Junior Victoire Omou was fifth in the discus (80-1). Junior Olivia Schwern finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.87). The 4×100-meter relay was third (51.55) and the 4×800 took fifth (11:12.90).

The top six finishers in each event at the sectionals qualified for the state Group 1 Championships at Egg Harbor, June 3-4.
