Glen Ridge HS track and field teams impress at sectional meet

GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Glen Ridge High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams enjoyed fine efforts at the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 State Championships held at Ridge HS in Basking Ridge, May 25-26.

The girls’ team finished fifth in the girls’ team standings and the boys’ team finished ninth in the boys’ team standing among the 23 schools.
Liz O’Connell won three events to lead the girls’ team. O’Connell won the 800-meter run in 2:25.38; the 1,600-meter run in 5:21.03 and the 3,200-meter run in 12:13.17. The 4×800-meter relay team also finished first in 10:26.67 and the 4×100-meter relay team took fourth in 54.64.

On the boys’ side, Isaiah Webster won the long jump at 20 feet-9 inches to lead GRHS. Zack Debelak was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.14; James Link took fourth in the discus at 118-0; and the 4×100 relay team was third in 44.33.

The top six finishers in each event will advance to the NJSIAA Group 1 State Championships at Franklin HS, June 1-2.
