UPDATED: Glen Ridge HS track star Liz O’Connell wins distance races at Group 1 State meet

GLEN RIDGE, NJ (corrected June 5, 11:57 a.m.) – Glen Ridge High School High School track and field standout  Liz O’Connell won both the girls’ 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run at the NJSIAA Group 1 State Championships held at Franklin HS, June 12.

O’Connell, a senior, was timed in 5:07.44 in the 1,600 and 11:34.58 in the 3,200, qualifying for the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions this Saturday, June 9, at Northern Burlington County Regional in Columbus.

On the boys’ side for the Ridgers, junior Isaiah Webster finished ninth in the long jump at 20-1. James Link, a junior, also took ninth in the discus at 126-4. Zach Debelak, a junior, took 13th in the 200-meter dash in 23.21. The 4×100-meter relay was seventh in 44.08.

O’Connell is having a stellar spring season. At the Essex County Championships, she won the 1,600 meters and took second in both the 800 and 3,200 at Montclair’s Woodman Field, May 18-19.

O’Connell swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 titles at the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 1 State Championships at Ridge HS, May 25-26.
