Glen Ridge HS wrestling team gears up for ECT

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge High School wrestling team will gear up for the Essex County Tournament, today, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. and tomorrow, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. at Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange.

The Ridgers, under head coach Kendall Southerland, are led by senior captain Iain Shaw.

Glen Ridge defeated Newark Collegiate, 40-35, Jan. 11, at Newark Academy. Leading the Ridgers, Ryder Smith had a 13-3 major decision win over Goodness Okoro at the 152-pound bout, James McCarren pinned Marquis Tabron in 27 seconds at 182 and Dean Geraci pinned Joseph Mitchell in 46 seconds at 220. Shaw had a forfeit win at 170, as did Andrew Bennet-Sines at 126, Mac Davidson at 145 and Stephen Nichols at 195.
