GLEN RIDGE – Glen Ridge senior assistant captain Owen Gleeson scored all four goals, including three in the third period to break a 1-1 tie, to lead the Verona/Glen Ridge high school varsity ice hockey team to a 4-1 win over Governor Livingston on Jan. 28 at Codey Arena in West Orange.
Gleeson opened the scoring on an assist by Glen Ridge freshman Jake Kuhn just 4:22 into the game. Governor Livingston tied it with 2:48 left in the first on a power-play goal.
After a scoreless second period, Gleeson made it 2-1 on assists by Glen Ridge sophomore Anton Martino and Glen Ridge senior captain Steven Wenzl, 2:51 into the third period.
Gleeson scored a power-play goal on assists by Wenzl and Verona senior Kevin White just 45 seconds later to make it 3-1. Gleeson closed out the scoring with another power-play with 3:50 left. Verona/Glen Ridge senior goalie Liam Blaney made 25 saves.
It was Verona/Glen Ridge’s fourth straight win and ninth win in the last 11 games to improve to an 11-6-1 record.
