GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Senior quarterback Tyler Liddy passed for 183 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Glen Ridge High School varsity football team to an emphatic 48-7 win over Butler in the season opener Saturday, Sept. 9, at Hurrell Field.
Liddy, who was 12 of 19 attempts, threw TD passes of 50 yards to junior split end Tyler Strong; 19 yards to senior running back Joe Martchesano; 15 yards to senior tight end David Weissberger and 22 yards to senior split end Avery Hackett. Liddy also hit Weissberger on a two-point conversion after Marchesano’s TD catch.
Marchesano also scored on runs of 24 and 35 yards and kicked four extra points. Marchesano finished with 176 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Sophomore linebacker Colin Ducey had a 40-yard interception return for a TD for the Ridgers.
Defensively, senior linebacker/captain Max Auborn had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery; sophomore defensive back Jackson Crutchfield had 11 tackles and an interception; junior defensive back Simon Low had 11 tackles and a forced fumble; senior DB Jose McCallen-Villafane had 11 tackles; sophomore DB Brendan Easter posted eight tackles with two sacks and Weissberger, a DB, had eight tackles and an interception.
The Ridgers will visit Newark Collegiate Academy on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Schools Stadium at 1 p.m. Newark Collegiate Academy is 1-0 after a 48-6 win over Marist.
