Verona/Glen Ridge ice hockey team tops foes; moves to 12-3-6

VERONA/GLEN RIDGE, NJ –  The Verona/Glen Ridge high school varsity ice hockey team defeated Johnson Regional and Nutley to improve to a 12-3-6 overall record,

Verona junior Jarrod Keating scored with 19 seconds left in the game to lift Verona/Glen Ridge to a 3-2 win over Johnson on Jan. 24 at Warinanco Rink in Roselle. GR junior Jake Kuhn and GR sophomore Alec Vecchione each had an assist on the game-winning goal as Verona/Glen Ridge bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Millburn on Jan. 21 which had snapped the team’s nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2).

GR junior Andrew Martell had one goal and one assist; and GR sophomore Chandler Otterbein had a goal. Kuhn finished with two assists and GR senior Colin Gilmore made 24 saves.

Verona senior Sean DeCandia and GR sophomore Aidan Brennan each had a goal in the 2-0 win over Nutley on Saturday, Jan. 27. DeCandia broke a scoreless tie in the second period. Brennan scored on assists from GR sophomore Noah Martinez and Verona senior Dylan Ruggiero in the third period. Gilmore made 24 saves for the shutout.
