BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Freshman swing player Briana Lee, a 2019 Irvington High School graduate, scored a season-high 26 points and freshman guard Kiera Dunhill netted a season-high 18 points to lead Felician University to a 73-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women’s basketball victory over host Bloomfield College on Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, at the Bloomfield College Gymnasium.
Freshman forward Tiara Mahorn, also a 2019 IHS graduate, turned in eight points and eight rebounds before fouling out.
Lee also totaled nine rebounds and three steals for Felician (2-10, 1-4 CACC) in 34 minutes. She was 10 for 11 on free throws. The Golden Falcons went 22 of 31 at the foul line, both season highs, and outscored Bloomfield by seven points at the charity stripe.
Dunhill was 6 for 9 from the field, including 3 for 4 from three-point range, in 25 minutes off the Golden Falcon bench.
Felician fell behind, 13-2, five minutes into the action. The Golden Falcons righted themselves on defense, and by the end of the first period, trailed 15-10. The run continued into quarter No. 2. The visitors ran off the first 12 points of the period, including six by Dunhill, to open a seven-point edge.
Felician never trailed again. It was up by as many as 10 in the second before settling for a 30-24 halftime advantage.
The Golden Falcons came up with the first six points of the second half. They saw their 12-point lead sliced to 40-39 following a Jaylah Bennett three-point field goal with four minutes, 34 seconds left in the third period. But Lee responded with her own three-pointer, and Felician held the Bears without a field goal for the balance of the quarter. At the end of the third, the Golden Falcons had rebuilt a 52-41 bulge.
Felician ended a 10-game losing streak. It also halted a stretch of nine consecutive losses in true road games dating back to last season.
