IRVINGTON, NJ – Irvington High School track and field athletes posted good efforts at the NJSIAA Group 3 State Championships at Central Regional HS in Bayville, June 1-2.
On the boys’ side, the 4×100-meter relay team took eighth in 43.64. The relay team comprised seniors Tavaughn Whyte, Michael Veltz, and Keano Fearon, and sophomore Dwight Henry.
Fearon finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 49.78. Whyte took 18th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles in 15.37. The 4×400 relay was eighth in 3:22.98, with Veltz, Fearon, Henry and freshman Devin Seward.
On the girls’ side, junior Andrea Jackson finished 14th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.22. Senior Vicky Molokwu was 21st in 16.10 and Jackson finished 23rd in 17.17 in the preliminaries of the 100 hurdles.
The Group 3 State meet consisted of the top six finishers in each event from the sectional meets.
Fearon, competing in his first track and field season, qualified for the NJSIAA State Meet of Champions in the 400-meter dash. The Meet of Champions will be held Saturday, June 9, at Northern Burlington County Regional HS in Columbus.
