Irvington HS boys’ basketball team moves to 13-2

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Glen Ridge and lost to a strong Newark East Side to move to a 13-2 overall record, 7-0 in the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division game.

Kymani Dunbar had 21 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists and Moses Pierre had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to lead the Blue Knights to a 68-58 home win over Glen Ridge, Jan. 24 in a SEC-Colonial Division game. Nazameir Brooks had nine points and four rebounds; Dameer Vital had nine points and four assists and Dezyln Sebastien had six points and five assists.

The Blue Knights had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 72-57 loss at Newark East Side, Jan. 26, in a SEC crossover game. Dunbar had 17 points with five rebounds and five assists; Karriem Thomas had 15 points with eight rebounds; Pierre had 10 points with four rebounds and two blocks; and Brooks had nine points, four rebounds and three steals. East Side, ranked No. 3 in the state, improved to 14-1.

The Blue Knights hope to gain a high seed in the 73rd Essex County Tournament. The seeding meeting for the ECT was scheduled for Monday night, Jan. 28, at Caldwell High School. The brackets will be released on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at noon.
