Irvington HS boys’ basketball team moves to 2-3 record

IRVINGTON – The Irvington High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Edison and lost to both Ocean Township and Tottenville, N.Y. in the Huskies Classic at Matawan to move to a 2-3 record.

Jakylin Shuford had 11 points and seven rebounds and fellow senior guard Othniel Nyameke had eight points and six rebounds in the 77-49 loss to Tottenville, N.Y. on Dec. 27. Senior guard Talik Lee had eight points, three rebounds and three assists and freshman guard Nasir Johson had seven points and four rebounds.  Senior forward Aasad Lawrence and senior guard Dashaun Daniels each had three points and junior guard Pious Palmer added one point.

Shuford had 17 points, Nyameke had 14 points and Johnson had 13 points in the 63-48 win over Edison on Dec. 28. Lee had eight points and senior guard Ijah Jones had five points. Senior guard Marquise Pearce, senior guard Ahmere Nelson and Lawrence each had two points.

Nyameke had a game-high 19 points and Lee had nine points in the 66-55 loss to Ocean Township on Dec. 30. Johnson had seven points, Pearce added three points and Daniels contributed two points for IHS.

In earlier action, Nyameke had 15 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, in the 57-40 loss at Columbia on Dec. 22. Lee had eight points and Lawrence had five points.
