Irvington HS boys’ basketball team seeks good run in state tournament

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ varsity basketball team hopes to make a good run in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 state tournament.

The Blue Knights, seeded fifth, will host No. 12 seed Nutley in the first round on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. The winner will face the winner of No. 13 seed Parsippany Hills and No. 4 seed Voorhees in the quarterfinal on Feb. 28.

The Blue Knights are looking to get back payback after losing to Nutley in last season’s Essex County Tournament preliminary second round.

Irvington lost to both Verona and North Bergen to move to a 13-9 record.

Nasamier Brooks had 18 points and Andrew Sylvestre had nine points, six rebounds and four steals in the 59-51 loss at Verona on Feb. 13.  Kymani Dunbar also had nine points; Jiair Bucknor had five points and Kevin Kilpatrick added four points and six rebounds.

Irvington lost at North Bergen, 64-41, Feb. 15.
