Irvington HS boys’ soccer team falls to Verona in ECT as five-game winning streak ends

IRVINGTON, NJ – The Irvington High School boys’ varsity soccer team had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 5-0 loss to Verona in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Monday, Oct. 17, in Verona.

It was only the Blue Knights’ second loss of the season. IHS moved to a 10-2-1 record. The Blue Knights were seeded 19th. Verona is the No. 14 seed.

In the previous game, Tefari Welch scored two goals in the 5-0 win over No. 26 seed North 13th Street Tech in the first preliminary round on Oct. 14 at Irvington Park. Peter Dumerand, Werlentz Eloy, and Abdoul Ilboudo each had a goal. Jean-Berson Lirismond had two assists and Chrisal Watson had an assist. Leonstein Sterling made four saves for the Blue Knights.

In other action last week, Shevon Gordon, John Alvarez, Abdoul Ilboudo, and Damien Powell each scored a goal to spark the Blue Knights to a 5-0 win over Christ the King on Oct. 11 at Irvington Park.  Welch and Adamsky Jean-Phillippe each had an assist and Faheed Adenuga made two saves for IHS.
