“Kids have really been competing against each other this offseason in preparation for our first game of the year,” said IHS head coach Salim Laib. “We have eight starters returning from last year’s team, including leading scorer Stoichkov Joseph, who is making an adjustment from Forward to Center Mid. Stanley Innocent is a three-year starter at Center Back and we’re looking at him to be the captain on the back line with Garry Cajuste, who we expect big things from.
“Frank Peprah is our returning assist leader from last season. He’s a kid that will run through a wall for you in order to benefit his team first mindset.”
The Blue Knights will open the season Sept. 5 at Orange in a Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division game.
Laib has hight hopes for his team this season.
“Our division will be very competitive this season with the addition of some new teams dropping down. Our expectations is to be able to go nose to nose with any team in Essex County any given day,” he said. “My goal is to win the games we’re supposed to win and come ready to compete everyday. If we learn how to play team soccer and feed off of each other’s strengths, I don’t see why we can’t win the conference or make noise in the state tournament.”
