IRVINGTON, NJ — The Irvington High School boys wrestling team enjoyed a good showing at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s District 12 tournament at West Essex Regional High School in North Caldwell on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The Blue Knights, under head coach Kyle Steele, finished in fourth place in the team standings among the 10 scoring teams.
Junior Isaiah Lambert won the 285-pound weight class title to lead the Blue Knights. Lambert decisioned Eldin Gashi of West Essex, 2-1, in overtime in the final.
Irvington had other top-three finishers.
Senior Aziah Robinson took second place in the 165-pound weight class, falling by pin in 1 minute, 21 seconds to Nando Ott of Hanover Park in the final.
Junior Sebastian Alcide pinned Joshua Ortiz of Madison in 2:46 at 132 to finish in third place. Senior Billy Nicolas also took third place at 190, pinning Jadon McCoy of Orange in 59 seconds.
The top-three finishers in each weight class qualified for the NJSIAA’s Region 3 tournament at West Orange High School on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
Senior Okwudili Onyeagoro took fourth place at 157 for Irvington, losing by pin to Benjamin Marques of West Essex.
