Irvington HS cross-country teams finish with winning SEC records

IRVINGTON, NJ — The Irvington High School boys and girls cross-country teams concluded their Super Essex Conference dual meet season on Sept. 24 at Branch Brook Park.

The girls team lost to Livingston, 17-39, but rebounded to defeat Newark Collegiate, 19-44, to finish with a dual meet record of 6-4 in the SEC-Liberty Division.

Taliyah Hayes (25:03) was first against Newark Collegiate, followed by Cathiana Jean, second; Irulana Nichols, fourth; Berline Julien, fifth; and Neissa Villius, sixth.

The boys team swept East Side, 15-0, West Side, 22-33 and Science Park, 20-35.

Entering the meet, Irvington had a 3-4 record. The victories gave the Blue Knights harriers a final dual meet record of 6-4.

Jared Manifold (20:53) was the first finisher for Irvington, followed by Matthias Litus, third; Mark Abarah, fourth; Daveon Wearing-Poindexter, fifth; and Casey Ortega, sixth.
